McMahan Takes Over At Pflugerville Connally

The pipeline from Copperas Cove just keeps flowing. Cove defensive coordinator Howard McMahan is the latest to ascend to the football coaching ranks after his appointment to lead Pflugerville Connally.

McMahan was pivotal in helping lead the Bulldawgs to the Class 4A Division I state championship game in December. Prior to coaching at Copperas Cove, McMahan served as an assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee State.

Jack Welch, Copperas Cove's veteran coach, lauded McMahan for his ability to discipline his players and earn their respect at the same time, and admitted he would not be surprised to face his former student in a future playoff game.

McMahan will be joining an already successful program at Connally that has earned four district championships under former coach Matt Monzingo, who went 78-29 in nine seasons before leaving for Canyon Lake High School. Connally advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals in 2004 and 2005.
