Stepping Stones: Stephon Hargrove

Cuero High is known for not only producing great teams (as judging from their 3 state championships in Class 3A), but some tremendous individual talents and one of those big time talents in 2007 will be speedy Defensive End Stephon Hargrove.

Hargrove played a big role for the Cuero defense which helped the Gobblers post a 12-1 record in 2006.

Hargrove who stands in at 6'2 215 runs a blazing 4.5 forty time and projects to possibly move to Linebacker in college, Hargrove bench presses 215 pounds and squats 430 pounds. As a sophomore Stephon earned second team all-district honors and in 2006 was named first team all 29-3A. Besides starring on the CHS defense, Hargrove plays a little Fullback and he is a member of the Gobblers track team.

"My speed and quickness off the edge are my biggest strengths, I get good leverage and stay low," replied Hargrove when asked about his strengths. Houston, Texas A&M, Boston College and Nebraska have all shown early interest in the DE/LB from South Texas.

Last summer Hargrove kept busy playing seven on seven for the Gobblers, and he plans on getting the Gobblers to the seven on seven state tournament for the first time this July. Also Stephon plan on attending at least two mini-camps this summer. Stephon plans on majoring in Business when he gets to college, but don't look for a decision from the Cuero DE/LB until after the 2007 season. "I am focused on getting to state this year, we've been so close the past few years. I want to help bring a state title home this year, but we got to take things one game at a time."
