Stepping Stones: J.T. Cleveland

After a disastrous winless 2005, the Baytown Lee Ganders rebounded in a big way in 2006 posting a 7-4 record and losing a heartbreaker in the bi-district playoffs (a 34-33 loss to North Shore).

6'1 273 pound Defensive Tackle J.T. Cleveland was a big reason why the Ganders got back into the playoffs in 2006. Cleveland who bench presses 370 pounds was a first team all-district selection in 2006, as a sophomore Cleveland earned a starting spot on the LHS defensive line.

"My biggest strength is my quick first step and my overall pass rush ability," said Cleveland.

TCU, Houston, SMU, Texas Tech and Baylor have all showed interest in the Defensive Tackle from Baytown. However as things stand right now J.T. does not have any favorites, and he does not hold any scholarship offers at this time.

Cleveland says he'd like to attend a camp or two this summer but he's undecided as to which camps he'll actually attend. J.T. says academics, location, and program prestige will all play key factors in determining where he lands.

As for 2007 Cleveland has some big goals, "I think we have the kind of team that can make a big playoff run, personally I would like to get all-area team and maybe even all-state."
