Sherman was a rarity in 2006 finishing 8-2 yet missing out on the playoffs in the age of 3 teams making the postseason in Class 4A. In a brutal District 5-4A that includes the likes of Wichita Falls Rider, Denton Ryan and Wichita Falls it will be a dogfight as a very good team will be sitting home come mid-November.
The Sherman offense despite typically being hurt by heavy graduation losses always seems to find guys to step up and plug the holes. QB Matt Rome returns to guide the Bearcats offense as he was named second team all 5-4A in 2006. Look for another set of new names to step in and fill some key roles for SHS again. On defense Sherman showed some signs of weakness giving up some big point totals against some of the better teams they faced last year. DE Jeremy Gray is the top defender who returns for the Bearcats.
If Sherman wants to advance into the playoffs, it'll have to start on the defensive side of the ball as they have shown they can score points on just about anyone when their offense is clicking on all cylinders.
