Nimitz star shines at GHFCA Combine

Big players play big, and in big games they turn it up a notch. With over 2600 other athletes in attendance Aldine Nimitz's Michael Thomas turned in a top performance with some truly astounding performances. TexasPrepInsider's Houston Area Editor, Ahmard Vital, caught up to Thomas at the combine and got the inside scoop.

After rushing for more than 1,000 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns in 2006 as a junior, Nimitz quarterback Michael Thomas is getting the attention he earned. Thomas is one of the most sought after signal callers in the state and has already chosen some of his top college choices.

TPI caught up with Thomas at the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association Combine.

"Right now I have seven offers," Thomas said. "But, right now I have to say that Stanford and Northwestern are my top two. I am not ready to make a decision, but both have great academic programs and good football teams."

Thomas has several options like: Baylor, Missouri, Arizona, Air Force, and Rice to round out the others. At the combine, Thomas' performance was top tier.

With a 40 time of 4.49 and a 38.8 vertical leap, the question of speed and explosiveness is more than evident.

"I think I did good out here today," Thomas said. "This is a good thing because you get to see how you rank with other athletes."

Last season, Thomas averaged nine yards a carry and his goal for his team to be the powerhouse in District 19-5A.
