Stepping Stones: C.J. Cox

C.J. Cox is North Garland's latest big time prospect in 2007 after a solid junior season big things are expected from the 5'11 195 pound Defensive Back with 4.5 speed.

Cox who boasts a 230 pound bench press max and a tremendous 500 pound squat max and a 31 inch vertical leap earned second team all 10-5A honors in 2006.

The North Garland DB posted 81 tackles , 2 INT's and 3 fumble recoveries in 2006 which was his second season starting in the secondary for the Raiders. Look for Cox to see lots of time on offense in 2007 for NGHS possibly at RB or maybe even QB.

"I think my ball skills are my biggest asset, if I get my hands on the ball it's usually an interception. I also pretty versatile, I think I play the run and pass equally," said Cox when asked to comment on his strengths. C.J. plans on spending lots of time with the North Garland off-season program getting faster and stronger this summer.

Oklahoma, Louisville, and Texas A&M have all shown interest in the Defensive Back from North Garland High and Cox also boasts offers from Oklahoma State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin as well. Last summer C.J first made an impression in mini-camps at TCU, Texas A&M and Texas. This summer the camp schedule won't be as heavy but Cox does plan on making Oklahoma's mini-camp.

"I want to go a school that makes me comfortable, I'd like a school with tradition and one who puts an emphasis on academics," said Cox who plans on majoring in Architecture. When asked about a timetable on a decision C.J. plans on making a big splash on a big day for him. "I want to commit on my birthday which is July 8, so I am thinking hard about it and on July 8 I'll announce my decision," said Cox.
