Cody leaves impression

Vancouver (Wa.) Hockingson OL Nicholas Cody came a long way to make an impression and did so during last weekend's Greater Houston Area combine. His showing has put him on the radar of several Pac-10 schools.

One of the more impressive showings of last weekend's Greater Houston Area combine came from a player whose school is more than 2,000 miles from where he made a lasting mark.

Nicholas Cody, a 6'5, 283-pound offensive lineman, came all the way from Vancouver, Washington, where he is standout for Hockinson High. Not only did his size impress, his 20 reps on the 225-pound bench press also left a mark.

"I wanted to see what the best had to offer," said Cody, who made the combine trip with his

brother. "You can't truly measure yourself until you go up against the caliber of players that you'll eventually face on the next level."

Cody has begun to get on the radar of several Pac-10 schools. Oregon State has inquired about him; he did mention that Oregon could be coming with an offer within the next few weeks as well.

Stanford is also in the running as well. Cody will meet with new Cardinal head coach Jim Harbaugh in the near future. Purdue has made themselves a factor in the chase for this sleeper.

"There's no one school that has an edge right now," said Cody. "It's very wide open. I'm looking forward to taking my visits and seeing where I best fit."

While making a decision before his senior year is a possibility, Cody expects that he will be pouring over letters and offers during the season.
