After a strong debut in Class 3A in 2006, Argyle now seems to be fully adjusted to life in Class 3A and could be poised for a good season. The Eagles not only bring back a strong nucleus from last year's 7-4 squad but help is coming from a JV squad that was 7-3. Expect Argyle to be near the top of the 8-3A standings and with some luck they could challenge Decatur for district bragging rights.
On offense AHS is led by QB J.J. Harp who had a spectacular junior season throwing for over 2400 yards and 21 touchdowns. Harp has lost most of his big weapons, and he may lean more on the ground game. The offensive line will be solid anchored by Corey White and Matt Grounds. Argyle is a growing town and area, and the Eagles are really starting to develop some depth. Overall with 7 starters back look for the Eagles to lean on the offensive side of the ball while their fairly young defense matures.
The defense only brings five starters and the Eagles graduated two time all-state DB Cy Zimmerman. The linebackers are the key for the defense led by Trevor Cantrell who posted nearly 100 tackles as a junior. Cantrell is joined by his partner in crime Ben Parks who double as one of the state's top kickers in Class 3A.
Overall, expect Argyle to be right in the mix for the 8-3A title and with Region 1 being a crapshoot in much of Division 2 the Eagles could make some noise, especially if they continue to fly under the Class 3A radar.
