On a hot muggy day in Central Texas, last minute entry Stephenville held off a game Waco Midway team in an exciting semi-final contest that went into Overtime to secure a berth in the 7 on 7 State Tournament. Waco Midway trailing by 6 points was able to send the game into OT on the last play of regulation on a 20 yard touchdown pass. If the team's Week Zero match-up is anything like their 7 on 7 contest that will be a game to watch! The Yellow Jackets a last minute entry into the field then knocked off the tournament's other qualifier Cedar Park 26-6 in the finals to win the Burnet SQT. SHS used a methodical but precise offense led by QB Kody Spano and RB Trey Taylor and a stifling defense anchored by Cody Davis to win the SQT. Cedar Park also utilized a tremendous short passing game in their 40-27 semi-final win over Belton to qualify for state for the first time.

Lampasas outlasted the Bulldogs in triple OT 47-45 in a game that had state tournament feel. Belton got down to Copperas Cove 19-7 in the 2nd half as CCHS returned INT's for touchdowns on back to back possession, but BHS led by speed Khiry Robinson and shifty Keith Daniels rallied with a late touchdown as time expired to win 20-19 over Copperas Cove who was without QB Robert Griffin who was attending a previously scheduled track meet. Burnet was able to escape their own SQT with a win in the final set of pool games with a 33-27 win over Cove, while Belton's defense stepped up to assist in a 40-27 win over a feisty Lampasas squad who showed some big time promise for future SQT's this week.
