Stepping Stones: Sedrick Johnson

Once known for producing big time tailbacks, the Piney Woods of East Texas is now producing some big time Wide Receivers as well. 6'4 196 pound Sedrick Johnson from Class 2A Arp is the next big prospect to come out of East Texas. A four year starter for the Tigers Johnson boasts a 4.6 forty time and a very impressive 40 inch vertical leap.

As a junior Sedrick was named 2nd team all-state as he helped AHS to a 7-3 record by hauling in 38 passes for over 1030 yards and 13 touchdowns. In 2005, Johnson was named 1st team all-district. Sedrick is not only an exceptional football player, but he stars on the hardwood for the Tigers and as a junior he was named District 19-2A MVP along with State MVP in basketball!

"My size and leaping ability are my two biggest strengths, if it's a jump ball I feel like it's my ball and I am going to come down with it," replied Johnson when asked about the best parts of his game. Sedrick stated also this summer his main focus is getting faster and being a more efficient route runner.

Johnson boasts scholarship offers from several big time schools including; Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Houston, Tulsa and Texas Tech and along with serious interest from USC and LSU. Look for a busy summer from Sedrick as not only does he plan on participating in 7 on 7 but he also will attend camps at Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Michigan.

Johnson who plans on being a history major says how he gets along with the coaching staff as a main factor in deciding where he lands along with a chance at earning early playing time. "I would like to make a decision before the season starts and then just focus on helping the team win and make the playoffs. I know our district is tough, but I think we can do it."
