It was an up and down 2006 for the Mabank Panthers in their return to Class 3A as MHS posted a 6-5 record. However, it does appear that MHS has found their QB for the next two seasons the highlight of 2006 was sophomore sensation Kolton Browning at QB. Browning earned District 13-3A newcomer of the year honors after throwing for 1095 yards and 9 touchdowns. Once again, Browning will be the focus of opposing defenses in 2007 as most feel he'll only get better. The offensive line is anchored by C Brandon Carrico who was first team all 13-3A. Browning's favorite target in the passing game will be WR Hayden Blair a second team all 13-3A pick.
On defense keep an eye on DL J.R. Hudson who was a first team all 13-A pick in 2006. Everywhere else on defense the Panthers took some heavy losses and heading into 2007 that is HC Jimmy Cantrell's main concern.
Overall expect Mabank to once again be right in the thick of the 13-3A race along with Kaufman and Crandall, however I don't see the Panthers being much of a threat in the playoffs due to a potential tough bi-district matchup against 14-3A. Last year 14-3A swept 13-3A in the playoffs and the same thing could happen again this year.
