Lake Travis SQT Preview

There are many, many imposters out there in the vast world of Texas Internet High School Coverage. However there is one place and one place only you'll get this kind of coverage for 7 on 7 and you are right here! The best part about the coverage it's FREE!!!

Pool A

Lake Travis* (ineligible to advance past pool play)

Round Rock Westwood

Lake Travis highlights this pool, the Cavaliers are 8-0 so far in SQT play and led by QB Garrett Gilbert and TE Jackson Anderson the Cavs could end their final SQT unbeaten. RR Westwood after a semi-final appearance two weeks ago failed to make it out of pool play in a blowout loss to Stephenville last week at Burnet, the Warriors didn't appear on top of their game. They'll have to be if they want to qualify this week with a very strong Brownwood squad in Pool A. Brownwood lost to Westwood in pool play two weeks ago at Round Rock's SQT, but now the Lions led by QB Casey Pachall are at full strength after missing 7 players. Mission rounds this pool out, MHS is led by QB Nathan Salazar who was first team all 32-4A in 2006. I expect a very close game between Westwood and Brownwood to determine who advances and I'll go with the Lions.

Little Matt's Pick: Brownwood

Pool B

Austin High

Cedar Park Vista Ridge

Dripping Springs

This on paper looks to be a weaker pool, Austin High didn't have a strong showing at Round Rock two weeks ago. The Maroons are led by RB Davis Collins and WR Emory Blake. Brady has traditionally played in SQTs but lately they haven't fared too well, now with the small SQT's being added BHS may try and play in one of those SQTs also. Vista Ridge is in their second year as a varsity program and the Rangers are looking to 7 on 7 to try and develop their program, I think they may be happy to just get a win this week. Dripping Springs posted a 1-2 record last week at the Burnet SQT with their only win coming against Round Rock, their experience in SQTs may help some but in the end I'll give Austin High the nod with their skill talent.

Little Matt's Pick: Austin High

Pool C

College Station A&M Consolidated

Round Rock Stony Point

A&M Consolidated, once considered a 7 on 7 power doesn't seem to quite have the edge they used to have. The Tigers didn't fare as well as they had hoped at the Manvel SQT or at Round Rock, but after taking a week off chances are good they can possibly steal a bid to the state tourney this week. Keep an eye on WR Dominic Preston for AMC. Stony Point despite going 0-3 last week at Burnet did show some promise playing two very good 7 on 7 squads in RR Westwood and Stephenville close, but the Tigers also had a bad loss to Buda Hays. Inconsistent play will prevent SPHS from winning the pool however, but they have the talent to pull an upset or two. Burnet struggled in a tough pool at their own SQT last week going 1-2, but the Bulldogs may have found their offense last week. They won't blow you away with size or speed but they execute well and will be a tough out. Manor rounds this pool out, the Mustangs haven't had much 7 on 7 success and I imagine they'll be at the bottom looking up in this pool also. I'll take A&M Consolidated in the pool but it's a shaky pick at best.

Little Matt's Pick: A&M Consolidated

Pool D

Austin Bowie

Belton leads this pool off, the Tigers had a solid run last week at Burnet led by their dynamic duo of Keith Daniels and Khiry Robinson. The Tigers however fell to Cedar Park in the semi-finals and the game was marred by internal bickering among the Belton players. If Belton can keep their cool and be more positive instead of infighting they could qualify this week, but if things go bad and the same things happen again this week the Tigers won't make it out of pool play because Georgetown is solid. The Eagles posted a 2-1 record last week in Pool C at Burnet losing a close game to a very good Waco Midway squad, look for GHS to be the favorite in this pool. Once a 7 on 7 state runner-up in 2001 Austin Bowie hasn't quite been the 7 on 7 power since. BHS will struggle in what is a difficult pool. Class 3A Rockdale rounds this pool out, the Tigers are looking to possibly tune up for the 3A-Under SQT scheduled for Texas State University on June 23, keep an eye on RB Kortlin White who is dangerous.

Little Matt's Pick: Georgetown

Brownwood vs. Austin High

This one gets ugly I think Brownwood rolls, too much experience and talent.

Little Matt's Pick: Brownwood

A&M Consolidated vs. Georgetown

Tough call here, but I'll take Georgetown. They impressed me last week, good DB's and an efficient QB who makes good decisions.
