After years of first round failure, the Graham Steers not only got past the bi-district round the Steers advanced all the way to the Regional Semi-Finals in 2006 going 7-6 before falling to Midland Greenwood 34-10. Hopes are at an all time in Graham this year as the Steers are primed to make some big time noise as most key components from last year's squad are back.
The offense's unquestioned leader in 2007 will be QB Case McCoy who as a freshman proved all doubters wrong, McCoy towards the end of the season looked like a savvy veteran and a leader as he was named District 6-3A newcomer of the year. McCoy has several solid players back including RB Jake Holub and WR's Trevor Sparks and John Wright. The offensive line is solid with first team all 6-3A performers Ben Butler and Lance Carson back.
Defensively the Steers did lose some key players however the cupboard is far from bare. DB Cody Stansell anchors the Steers defense and his partners in crime include DE Jim Gwinn and LB Nolan Waggoner. If GHS can replace some of their key losses on defense they could be big time contenders out in Region 1. However any little slip up and the Steers could possibly be looking at fighting for their playoff lives in a very tough District 6-3A where there are no off weeks!
