Midwestern State 3A-Under SQT Picks & Preview

There are many, many imposters out there in the vast world of Texas Internet High School Coverage. However there is one place and one place only you'll get this kind of coverage for 7 on 7 and you are right here! The best part about the coverage it's FREE!!!

Pool A

Archer City

This pool looks to be all about Celina, the Bobcats year in year out have gone against the top 5A teams in DFW and are well seasoned in 7 on7. Led by D'Anton Lynn and RB Charley Waldrep the Bobcats have plenty of firepower. Class 1A Archer City joins Celina, the Wildcats graduated all of their top skill talent and they could struggle. Bridgeport may be the team best equipped to give Celina a run for their money, the Bulls feature WR/DB James Kilpatrick as their top player. 7 on 7 does fit the Bulls game and they'll be a threat to qualify if not this week maybe next week. Hico has long played in league play against the likes of Stephenville and Granbury so the Tigers won't be intimidated.

Little Matt's Pick: Celina

Pool B

Valley View

Wichita Falls Hirschi

On paper this pool may be the toughest in the SQT, Decatur leads things off. The Eagles have long run a wide open offense where they sling it around and they should be well prepared. DHS did struggle a few weeks back in a non SQT at Hebron High School, keep an eye on all-purpose back Josh Trant. Melissa came within one game of qualifying for the State Tournament last year at the Paris SQT, the Cardinals lost a lot of good skill talent and they may have some troubles this week but the SQT will be great experience. Hometown team Wichita Falls Hirschi comes into the SQT as the possible favorite, easily the most athletic team in the SQT the Huskies have some serious athleticism which is a must in 7 on 7. Hirschi is led by their pair of excellent WR's in C.J. Turner and LaRay Mitchell. Class 1A Valley View rounds this pool out. HHS with their depth and athletes should be able to escape from this pool and into the State Tournament.

Little Matt's Pick: Wichita Falls Hirschi

Pool C

Glen Rose

The only team in this SQT who played in the 7 on 7 State Tournament last year leads this field off and that's Graham. The Steers feature some excellent talent and depth which will go a long way into winning this SQT. QB Case McCoy got wonderful experience as a freshman last year and he could be a handful for defenses for another 3 years! GHS has some good skill talent in RB Jake Holub, UB Trevor Sparks and WR John Wright. The defense is led by DB Cody Stansell. Glen Rose won't be a pushover, the Tigers are led by junior QB Derek Thompson and WR Hunter Harris. The Henrietta Bearcats and Munday Moguls round out the pool, not much is known about these two schools but they definitely have a tough draw. Munday is led by QB Steven Urbanczyk who could have a big senior season. All in all Graham is the easy pick in this pool.

Little Matt's Pick: Graham

Pool D

Pilot Point

This pool features most of the unknowns in the SQT. Electra, Lindsay and Nocona are all unknowns when it comes to 7 on 7. Electra is led by WR Rolly DeLaRosa but the rest of their skill talent has graduated. Lindsay has an experienced team and could be dangerous, WR/DB Keith Hermes was District 11-1A Offensive MVP in 2006. Nocona breaks up the Class 1A block party in Pool D, the Indians took some hits in graduation and may struggle some. Class 3A Pilot Point finishes this pool out, the Bearcats participated in some SQT play last year and made a good accounting of themselves but they took some large hits in graduation. Junior RB Cooper Guthrie is a threat for PPHS. Overall this pool is wide open, but I think the trend of the 3A schools dominating play will assert itself in this SQT with Pilot Point qualifying.
