Amarillo Caprock SQT Picks and Preview

There are many, many imposters out there in the vast world of Texas Internet High School Coverage. However there is one place and one place only you'll get this kind of coverage for 7 on 7 and you are right here! The best part about the coverage it's FREE!!!

Pool A

Amarillo Caprock

Host Caprock opens this pool up, the Longhorns are led by RB Matt Landerson and WR Jeremy Molinas. CHS hasn't had much success during the fall but they should fare well in this pool. Dalhart is a run oriented squad and while the Wolves had a big season in 2006 I don't expect much from them in this SQT. Class 4A Dumas makes their SQT debut, the Demons are led by WR Nathan Ellison and DB Billy Sithavong. Class 3A Borger rounds the field out, the Bulldogs usually have some solid athletes even with declining enrollment. Although I don't expect them to qualify look for BHS to be a tough out in this pool. I think Caprock will be obligatory host school to make it out of pool play this week.

Little Matt's Pick: Amarillo Caprock

Pool B

Amarillo Palo Duro

Amarillo River Road

There is a definite city of Amarillo flavor in this pool, Palo Duro leads things off. PD qualified for the 2005 State Tournament at the Frenship SQT but was unable to make it to College Station due to a lack of funds. The Dons will once again feature superior athletes and that goes a long way in 7 on 7. The Dons are absolutely loaded at the skill positions led by WR Cedric Johnson and DB's O'Quinn Young along with Dustin Lyesight. Pampa lost some solid talent, and the Harvesters may be in trouble in a tough pool. I don't expect much from PHS this weekend. Class 2A River Road much like Pampa will have trouble getting through a difficult pool. Keep an eye on junior QB C.J. Arney for the Wildcats. Traditonal power Amarillo High rounds this pool out, the Sandies should be PDHS's toughest challenge in pool play. The Sandies did graduate heavy at the skill positions however and that's why the edge goes to Palo Duro.

Little Matt's Pick: Amarillo Palo Duro

Pool C

Canyon Randall

Bushland* (can not advance past pool play)

This pool is highlighted by Bushland who qualified for the "Small School" State Tournament, BHS will just be looking to get some work in against some of the bigger schools this week. Canyon High opted not to play with the small schools in their backyard at West Texas A&M and instead will play with some of the larger schools. CHS was hit hard by graduation and it may be tough for them to advance out of a difficult pool. Cross town rival Randall joins Canyon in this pool, the Raiders are led by WR Tyler Willard. Hereford has been known to sling it around quite a bit, but the Whitefaces lost a lot of their big guns also. I'll still take HHS to advance out of pool play but keep an eye on Canyon Randall.

Little Matt's Pick: Hereford

Pool D

Wolfforth Frenship

Canadian* (can not advance past pool play)

Amarillo Tascosa

The obvious name which jumps out in this pool is Frenship. The Tigers who have qualified for the State Tournament the past two seasons is the class of the SQT. QB Seth Doege has to be chomping at the bit to get back in action after missing all of 2006 with a knee injury. He's got a great supporting cast as well, highlighted by RB Michael Connor, WR Trey Whaley, WR Jeremy Watson and DB Eddrick Wiggins. Canadian much like Bushland is just looking to get some work in against the big boys as they prepare for the Class 3A-Under State Tournament. Tascosa may be the best team equipped to deal with Frenship in this pool but the Rebels along with Idalou will simply be outclassed by a Frenship team that has the tools to make a deep run in College Station.

Little Matt's Pick: Wolfforth Frenship
