Arlington Bowie SQT Preview

There are many, many imposters out there in the vast world of Texas Internet High School Coverage. However there is one place and one place only you'll get this kind of coverage for 7 on 7 and you are right here! The best part about the coverage it's FREE!!!

Pool Play starts at 5:00pm at Bowie HS

Pool A

Saginaw Boswell

The Mesquite Skeeters who are making their SQT debut feature a big time QB in Kelly Page. MHS is very athletic across the board and Page's top receiver is Adrian Richards. Richards is nearly 6'4 and can out jump most DB's. The Skeeters feature a couple of solid defensive backs also in Terrance Baker and Jeremy Hernandez. The only thing to question with Mesquite is their lack of SQT play. Coppell along with Mesquite is also making their SQT debut, the Cowboys lost most of their offensive talent from 2006 but they have a stud DB in Devin Smith. Arlington High doesn't have the raw talent they have had the past couple of seasons, but they do have a solid QB in Brandon Kelsey. Boswell who made the state tournament last year and nearly knocked off Southlake Carroll on the second day during bracket play is back at full strength for 7 on 7 after being eliminated from the baseball playoffs. The Pioneers will depend on QB Daniel Harrist to lead a very young squad. Look for Mesquite to take this pool simply due to solid QB play and big time athletes.

Little Matt's Pick: Mesquite

Pool B

Arlington Lamar

Arlington Martin

Lamar hasn't had much luck in qualifying thus far as they have failed to advance out of pool play the past two SQTs including a loss to Arlington Martin last week at the Southlake Carroll SQT. LHS has plenty of offensive talent with QB Ben Sherrard and WR Lazarus Anderson, but there are some questions on defense as the Vikings don't appear to be as strong in the secondary. Keller had a good showing two weeks ago at Colleyville going 2-1 in pool play, however the Indians had a chance to make more noise but a blowout loss in the third game prevented them from advancing to the semi-finals. KHS has the tools to win this pool but they'll need to be more consistent. Richland was rained out two weeks ago in Granbury and as a young team they needed that experience. It could be a long day for the Rebels in a solid pool, LB Victor Jones has great speed and could contribute on offense. Arlington Martin like Richland was rained out at Granbury, the Warriors are a run based offense and their top player is RB Jeremi Mathis. MHS features some solid athletes and they got some good experience in a semi-final trip at the SLC SQT. Martin took a hammering in the semi-finals against the Dragons but I think that experience will help them out big time this week. I'll take the Warriors.

Little Matt's Pick: Arlington Martin

Pool C

Lake Dallas

Frisco Centennial

Dallas Lincoln

FW Eastern Hills

This is a pool that features lots of question marks, Lake Dallas makes their 2007 SQT debut seeking their first ever trip to the state tournament. The Falcons did graduate a good senior class but they still have plenty of talent led by QB Zach Waggoner and WR Alvin Blackmon. Frisco Centennial like Lake Dallas makes their SQT debut as well, the Titans don't have a much of a history of 7 on 7 success. However CHS does have a solid combo of junior QB Ryan Mossakowski and WR Aaron Kirkpatrick. The Titans also had a very good showing last week at Southlake, going 2-1 in a tough pool. For the second season in a row Lincoln is entered in the Bowie SQT and last year the Tigers impressed. LHS is very dangerous in 7 on 7 due to their speed and athletes they feature across the board. No one can afford to take the Tigers lightly this year, LHS is led by RB Byron Bailey. This pool features some serious athleticism as Eastern Hills joins Lincoln, the Highlanders have some strong talent but not enough to advance. I look for Lake Dallas to win a very evenly matched pool as this could come down to a tie-breaker.

Little Matt's Pick: Lake Dallas

Pool D

Arlington Bowie

Colleyville Heritage* (already qualified can not advance past pool play)

Fort Worth Wyatt

This a pool that screams lopsided on paper but not so fast!! Arlington Bowie will be looking to qualify in what their coaches are saying is their final SQT of the summer. The Vols looked excellent at times in the Colleyville Heritage SQT advancing to the semi-finals before falling in a thriller to Plano 47-46. The Vols defense will need to play a little better if they want to get into the state tournament comfortably. Bowie also has an obstacle to overcome as they will be without QB Christian Mathews, WR Andre McGee will have to step in and QB this week. Look for WR Roddy Maginot to get a ton of work this week. Colleyville Heritage for the second time in three years won their own SQT a couple of weeks ago. QB Tyler Little was impressive as was junior DB Eddie Foster. I don't expect a full Panthers squad to show up this week and if they do, the rotation will be very liberal. Wyatt played in a non-SQT three weeks ago in Waxahachie and struggled, the competition this week will be even tougher. I expect the Chaps to struggle to even win a single game. Mansfield was a late addition to the field and the Tigers make this pool a bit tougher as they have some solid athletes and a big time RB in Donovan Roberts. With Colleyville already qualifying and not being able to advance Bowie wins this pool but not as easy as you may think.

Little Matt's Pick: Arlington Bowie

Mesquite vs. Arlington Martin

I think experience plays a factor here and Martin has it after going through some growing pains at Southlake. The Warriors are athletic enough to stay with Mesquite and I think they'll secure their first ever state tournament berth.

Little Matt's Pick: Arlington Martin

Lake Dallas vs. Arlington Bowie

This will be a one sided affair, the Vols will coast into the state tournament against the Falcons. Lake Dallas has some young talent but they don't have the sheer number of athletes the Vols have and with homefield advantage Bowie is an easy pick.

Little Matt's Pick: Arlington Bowie

Arlington Martin vs. Arlington Bowie

In this all Arlington final, I'll take Martin simply because Bowie's luck without their QB will run out. I'll take the Warriors.

Little Matt's Pick: Arlington Martin
