Arlington Bowie 3A-Under SQT Picks & Preview

There are many, many imposters out there in the vast world of Texas Internet High School Coverage. However there is one place and one place only you'll get this kind of coverage for 7 on 7 and you are right here! The best part about the coverage it's FREE!!!

Pool Play starts at 9am at Bowie HS in Arlington

Pool A

Celina* (can not advance past pool play)

Dallas Madison

Lake Worth

This is an all 3A pool and a pool with some solid teams. Celina was dominant last week in the Midwestern State SQT breezing to a 5-0 record and I expect them to go 3-0 this week but they just won't be able to advance out of pool play. Mabank has the 7 on 7 experience necessary to make a run in this SQT, the Panthers are led by their junior QB Kolton Browning who had a great 2006 season. Madison has the athletes necessary to be a strong 7 on 7 squad but a lack of experience and a lack of going against strong teams in 7 on 7 will be the Trojans undoing. MHS' top players are DB Greg Jordan and WR Bobby Hicks both of whom have blazing speed. Lake Worth lost some strong skill talent but they still have RB DeAndre Davis who is a game breaker. This will be a solid pool, but in the end QB play in 7 on 7 makes the difference and I'll go with Mabank.

Little Matt's Pick: Mabank

Pool B

Celina JV* (can not advance past pool play)

Blooming Grove

Not much is known about Celina's JV squad and they can't advance past pool play so we won't mention much about them expect for the fact I imagine they'll be good! Nocona took some hits by graduation and I think the Indians may struggle some. Childress could be a sleeper in this pool, keep an eye on RB/DB Bo Helm and RB Michael Ramirez. Blooming Grove has a solid 7 on 7 pedigree even making a foray into an SQT or two in the past. The Lions have a solid set of skill players and I expect BGHS to advance to the State Tournament out of this pool.

Little Matt's Pick: Blooming Grove

Pool C

Waco Reicher

Pilot Point

Waco Reicher leads off a very Central Texas oriented pool, the Cougars are led by QB Kenneth Cluley. Pilot Pont last week posted a 1-1 record in pool play losing a heartbreaker to Lindsay. The Bearcats will be right in the mix once again this week to qualify. Gatesville twice nearly qualified for the State Tournament last year but lost heartbreakers in both Granbury and Brownwood. GHS will be very young in 2007 but I think they'll have enough 7 on 7 wise to qualify and win this pool. West doesn't have much of a 7 on 7 pedigree either, but they usually have solid talent. Keep an eye on WR Collin Sykora for the Trojans.

Little Matt's Pick: Gatesville

Pool D

Texarkana Pleasant Grove

Dallas Episcopal

Glen Rose

Pleasant Grove makes the long trip to the DFW area out of East Texas, the Hawks are led by junior WR Logan Ashby and QB Jake Rogers. PGHS brings back a number of key players and they'll be a tough out. Episcopal lost their big time QB in Brock Mansion, not sure how they'll fare but in a tough pool however. Bridgeport finished 1-1 last week at Midwestern State including playing Celina within a touchdown, that makes the Bulls the favorite to win this pool and qualify. Glen Rose will be a tough out as well, the Tigers have a strong QB in Derek Thompson and WR Hunter Harris. This is a very even pool and it could come down to a tiebreaker and I'll go with the Bulls.
