Wylie SQT Picks and Preview

There are many, many imposters out there in the vast world of Texas Internet High School Coverage. However there is one place and one place only you'll get this kind of coverage for 7 on 7 and you are right here! The best part about the coverage it's FREE!!!

Pool A

Wylie

Garland Naaman Forest

Garland Lakeview Centennial

The Colony

Host school Wylie didn't give themselves the obligatory host school easy pool this year, even though on paper it looks easy. The Pirates last week struggled posting a 1-2 record in pool play, QB Jerod Monk looks the part but his supporting cast has to help him out this week. Naaman Forest made a strong run last week all the way to the semi-finals at Southlake and included in that 3-0 pool play record was a win over Wylie. The Rangers feature QB Levi Keffer who has progressed big time this summer and WR Derrick Osborn. Lakeview two weeks ago at Rockwall was more than competitive even posting a win over State Qualifier Plano! This was done without star DB Corrigan Powell, with Powell in the fold watch out for the Patriots! The Colony actually pulled an upset two weeks ago beating Lakeview, which may have prevented the Patriots from advancing to the semi-finals. It may be tough for them to get a win this week. I think we could see a tiebreaker come into play this week, but I'll stick with Naaman Forest who has shown major improvement this summer!

Little Matt's Pick: Garland Naaman Forest

Pool B

Rockwall* (can not advance past pool play)

Granbury

North Mesquite

Forney

Rockwall is still making the SQT rounds despite having already qualified, the Yellow Jackets will be looking for a better performance this week after a 1-2 record at Southlake Carroll. Granbury has had to wait almost four weeks to make their SQT debut as their SQT was rained out Memorial Day Weekend. The Pirates are led by QB Stephen Darrow. North Mesquite had a strong showing two weeks ago at Wylie losing a heartbreaker to a very good South Garland squad. The Stallions with their star WR's Lanear Sampson and Daymond Patterson are a threat to make noise in this SQT and if their young athletic DB's step up, they'll be a handful! Forney after a couple of blowout losses at Rockwall will look to right the ship this week. With Plano having already qualified I don't see North Mesquite having any trouble in this pool.

Little Matt's Pick: North Mesquite

Pool C

South Garland

Gunter

Allen

West Mesquite

This is a pool that features three big time 7 on 7 schools and then poor little Class 2A Gunter. GHS looks to be in way over their heads and probably should have given the small school SQTs a shot. Gunter will be lucky to just stay in a game against these three beasts. South Garland has a load of Division 1 talent led by QB Nick Florence, WR Steven Osborne and DB's Joseph Ibiloye and Courtney Osborne. SGHS lost a close one in the Rockwall SQT semi-finals to Plano East. Allen typically plays in one SQT a year so they'll be throwing the kitchen sink at everyone, the Eagles have maybe the top receiver in the state in WR Dan Buckner who at 6'5 and with 4.5 speed is a nightmare to match up with. If AHS QB Stephen Payne progresses, the Eagles will be a handful for anyone in 7 on 7. West Mesquite hasn't played in a SQT this year as they were rained out in Granbury, the Wranglers are led by QB Kendall Thomas and Markeith Elder. WMHS may not qualify this week, but in Granbury on June 30 they should have a good shot at getting in.

Little Matt's Pick: Allen

Pool D

Richardson Lake Highlands

Mesquite

Lake Dallas

Plano West

Lake Highlands hasn't been in SQT play since Memorial Day Weekend when they posted a 2-1 record in pool play only losing to Hebron. LHHS has some solid athletes and could be a threat in this pool. Mesquite came within one play of qualifying for state Wednesday at Bowie losing a heartbreaker to Arlington Lamar 36-32. MHS QB Kelly Page and the offense looked great all day long and the Skeeters were solid on defense also. Plano West seems every week to have one big game in SQTs but they'll throw out a couple of duds also. If Plano West can find a way to bottle their performance last week at Southlake in their 66-6 win over Plano they could be dangerous! Lake Dallas was a surprise entry into the semi-finals Wednesday at Bowie, WR Alvin Blackmon had a sensational tournament and the Falcons seemed to get better as the day wore on. Don't underestimate LDHS in this pool!

Little Matt's Pick: Mesquite

Semi-Finals

Garland Naaman Forest vs. North Mesquite

Naaman made a surprising run to the semi-finals at Southlake last week, can the Rangers take the next step? NMHS will be a tough out with their big time receivers, and I think that will make the difference.

Little Matt's Pick: North Mesquite

Allen vs. Mesquite

This will be a one will be fun to watch, Allen has big time offensive weapons but can their defense make enough plays to slow the Skeeters down? I don't think AHS will be able to stop Mesquite BUT I do think the Eagles have enough offense to beat Mesquite in a high scoring affair.

Little Matt's Pick: Allen

Finals

North Mesquite vs. Allen

The "championship" games of pool play are usually dicey affairs as each team has accomplished the number one goal. I'll go out on a limb and take the Stallions just off a hunch.

Little Matt's Pick: North Mesquite
