Wolfforth Frenship SQT Picks and Preview

There are many, many imposters out there in the vast world of Texas Internet High School Coverage. However there is one place and one place only you'll get this kind of coverage for 7 on 7 and you are right here! The best part about the coverage it's FREE!!!

Pool A

Wolfforth Frenship* (already qualified can not advance past pool play)

Odessa Permian

Big Spring

Amarillo Caprock

Frenship blitzed through the Caprock SQT last week, not getting challenged until the championship game when they won a squeaker over Amarillo Palo Duro. QB Seth Doege showed no ill effects from last year's knee injury and the Tigers should be a force at state. Permian was 1-2 at Abilene last week, but they didn't even have their full compliment of players which they'll have this week. I expect the Panthers who qualified for last year's State Tournament to be right in the mix with Big Spring. MOJO qualified for the State Tournament last year at Frenship. BSHS knocked off Permian by 7 last week, but it may be a tall order this week. Caprock failed to advance out of pool play at their own SQT last week and I don't think the Longhorns will fare too well in a tough pool.

Little Matt's Pick: Odessa Permian

Pool B

Lubbock Estacado

Lubbock Cooper

Odessa High was only able to manage a single win last week in pool play over San Angleo Lakeview at the Abilene SQT. Although I expect the Bronchos to fare a little better this week, it would be an upset for them to win the pool. Estacado hasn't had much success in either 7 on 7 or in the fall, but I look for the Matadors to be much improved and I expect a preview this week. WR Jeremy Watson, WR/DB Ashone Patterson and RB/DB Eric Washington are all speedy skill players who are difference makers. Those 3 players will present big matchup problems for the other teams in this pool. Idalou and Cooper are both smaller schools who probably would be better served playing in one of the small school SQTs, I don't see either squad making much noise in this pool.

Little Matt's Pick: Lubbock Estacado

Pool C

Amarillo Palo Duro* (already qualified can not advance past pool play)

Midland Lee

Palo Duro much like Frenship waltzed through pool play and semi-final play en route to qualifying for the State Tournament. The Dons are now in tune-up mode and they could be a sleeper in College Station because of their athleticism. Lubbock High is playing in their obligatory one SQT, QB Josh Klemme leads the Westerners. Midland Lee had a strong showing last week in Abilene going 2-1 in pool play only losing to Brownwood 41-28. The Rebels feature a balanced offense and they could be a favorite to qualify for their first ever 7 on 7 State Tournament. McCamey is a 1A powerhouse, and I think the Badgers will play well for a time but a lack of depth will hurt the Badgers.

Little Matt's Pick: Midland Lee

Pool D

Midland Christian

Lubbock Coronado

This is a tough pool to pick with no real standouts much like Pool B. Hereford failed to advance out of pool play at Caprock last week despite being a favorite. Midland Christian is typically a strong private school will lean on QB Corey Burleson. Class 2A state runner up Littlefield lost a great senior class but they'll still have versatile O.J. Zapata to lean on. Lubbock Coronado should be the deepest team in this pool, the Mustangs have some good size and speed and WR and that'll be enough to get them into the semi-finals.

Little Matt's Pick: Lubbock Coronado
