Tyler Lee a main stay at the 7 on 7 State Tournament by virtue of winning a coin flip will is determined the winner of the Granbury SQT (hosted at Aledo HS) and Coppell is considered the runner up. However both teams get the big honor of advancing to the 7 on 7 State Tournament!

ALEDO- It was a muggy day on Saturday, but luckily the rain held off long enough in Eastern Parker County as Tyler Lee and Coppell both punched tickets to the 7 on 7 State Tournament in College Station. The Granbury SQT was originally scheduled to be held at Granbury, but due to the heavy storms there were no playable fields at GHS so graciously Aledo High School stepped up and offered the use of their first class facilities for the tournament. Both qualifiers continued the theme of heart stopping semi-final wins as Coppell rallied from a 34-20 halftime deficit to West Mesquite to pull out a 44-40 win on the game's final play as QB Dalton Williams hit Chad Thedford in the corner of the end zone for the winning score. Tyler Lee's Jamal Mitchell picked off a pass in the end zone in overtime to seal the Red Raiders 55-48 win over Wylie in the other semi-final game.

Weatherford in their first and only SQT of the year struggled mightily under new QB Chris Fielder. WHS was drilled in their opener by Eastern Hills 47-26, while Abilene jumped out to a 22-6 halftime lead before holding on to beat Coppell 28-22. Eastern Hills only brought 12 players and the lack of depth started to show in their second game as Abilene under the direction of Spens Lackey who was finally cleared to play rolled past EHHS 48-12. Coppell got things kicked into high gear as they trounced Weatherford 40-6. CHS continued their hot streak as they dismantled a gassed Eastern Hills squad 56-33 and Abilene had no trouble with Weatherford winning 42-27.

Pool C Recap

This pool featured two of the day's most exciting games and both involved Aledo on the losing end of things. Aledo in their first game held a late lead over Stephenville who was without RB Trey Taylor and missing DB Cody Davis and two other DB's. However the ‘Jackets scored on the final play of the game to take the win 30-25. Tyler Lee rolled past an outmanned Martin squad 40-22. Tyler Lee would have their hands full with Aledo in their second game as Aledo's Cole Loftin was used all over the place and he gave Lee fits. However the Red Raiders managed to bounce back from a 35-26 halftime deficit to force a 54-54 tie at the end of regulation. Despite a couple of close calls not going their way in overtime Lee was able to pull out a 60-54 win over Aledo in OT. Aledo did manage a win in their final game 21-14 while Stephenville knocked off Tyler Lee 31-19.
