Westfield has always been able to run the football straight at their opponents and this season will be no different as 1st team All-District SR RB Bo Walker returns along with his 1,432 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. Giving Walker all the giant holes to run through will be done by 4 All-District players. SR TE Jon Gimm is a great blocker as well as pass catcher. SR John Crear, JR Jonathan Jones, and SR Eric McNeil are the returning All-District players at OL. SR Nate Golden and SR Branel Myers will plug in the remaining spots as well as SR Andy Arnold and SR Adriel Monterroza. SR FB Ryan Mitchell also returns in the backfield for the Mustangs. SOPH QB Jacolby Walker is the leading candidate to earn the spot but needs to minimize mistakes and allow the playmakers to do their jobs. The WR bunch is a very talented and athletic group and will be led by 1st team All-District JR Adam Watson who had 22 receptions for 382 yards receiving and 3 TD last season. JR Barry Ford and JR James Logan will also help in the passing game.
Offensively Westfield has a tremendous amount of talent, now just imagine a defense that gave up less than 10 points per game last season and returns 5 All-District starters. Leading by example is a player that recorded well over 100+ tackles last season and is an All-State type of player in SR LB Herman Mictchell. SR Tolu Akindele and SR Shiloh Hickman will be helping Mitchell as the other LB's. The defensive secondary returns two All-District players in SR CB Broderick Brown (4 int) and SR FS Nick Sampson (3 int). SR Marquis Hines will anchor down the safety position opposite Sampson. The defensive line will be bulky as usual with SR DT's Jonathon Mathis (270lbs) and Nick Nwoko (335lbs). Also alongside the d-line will be returning All-District SR DE Christian Ridge.
The Westfield Mustangs look like they could be a 10-0 District Champion in a very tough district once again if they can defeat contender Klein Forest as they did last season, 7-6. The Mustangs are a consensus top 10 statewide team and will try to get back to the State Championship game as they did in 2004.
