Arlington Bowie shed its loser's image last year by rolling a 7-3 regular season and making the playoffs. They proved to be the best team in Arlington, and there is nothing preventing the same from happening this year. The team returns almost everyone on offense and key players on defense from last year's 7-4 season. They wont be satisfied with a first round loss this year.
Christian Matthews will lead the quarterback position. Bowie has always had a pretty good QB (Sherrod Harris, the most recent one) - and Christian Matthews continues in that tradition. Although only third on the depth chart going into last season, he accounted for over 2250 yards and 20 TD's last year. Although Bowie dismissed their star running back, Jonathan Johnson will step in with a more powerful style of football.
The defense will be solid for Bowie this season as well. The secondary is very speedy and has been at football speed all summer with several 7 on 7 stints. The secondary is a little undersized from top to bottom, but Kip Edwards will keep defenses honest. Marcus McGraw is one of the leading linebackers returning with over 150 tackles last season. Jake Sharum (LB) and Mohammed Usman (DE) round out some of the talent on the defensive side of the ball.
In a super talented district, Arlington Bowie will not be left out. Although they may only get third place, they are looking at a pretty good playoff run, likely avoiding Euless Trinity or Southlake until the fourth round. Bowie could go as far as their offense will take them this season. They have the coaching, the discipline and the horses to replicate last season. Even though their record may be similar, their expectations are certainly higher.
