McKinney North was flying high last season. They were 8-0 and on top of the world. Two straight losses to Lake Dallas and Little Elm and then a heart breaking loss to Highland Park ended their playoff run hopes. This season, they will need to replace their best senior class in history. They return 7 starters, but they still have solid participation for Coach Shawn Pratt's Bulldogs.
Replacing Eric Herbel will be tough this season. Vince Stanko looks to take over at quarterback, although a young sophomore may jump up and take the reigns. David Douglas is their best playmaker, and they will find ways to get him the ball. He had nearly 1300 yards last season. The offensive line should be pretty good as most of their returning starters come from the line led by Colton Duncan, who made all-state as a sophomore. Charles Cole had good numbers as a running back, and McKinney North may try to run more from the spread this year.
On the defense, McKinney North is going to have to replace a lot - but their best defense last year as their offense. Kenny Alexander was a big part of their defense at linebacker and he will be tough to replace. Colton Floyd is an Alexander starter kit, and he will be a solid player. Michael Scott returns at cornerback. He has good size and gets to practice against one of the best receivers in the district daily.
Overall, McKinney North will be down - but how far down is up to debate? Little Elm should be the consensus top team in the district, but with Frisco Centennial, Frisco and Lake Dallas all having question marks, McKinney North is as good of a bet as anyone, although they will have to work harder to win this season. Look for them to tie for second, but they will likely get bounced out in the first round again this season to Highland Park.
