Greenville had a solid scrimmage against Sulphur Springs, and after seeing the talent emerge last season under Jeff Cordell, fans knew it wouldn't be long before Greenville started to get back to respectability. Despite only returning 5 starters, Greenville is certainly a team on the rise.
Jeremy Fowler takes over at quarterback for Greenville. He showed strong efficiency in his play in summer 7 on 7 and in the scrimmage. Sophomore Dakeiston Williams may get the starting job this season. Kevin Heath is one of the top receivers on the team, and the offensive line will be better this year led by Bennilee Shelby and Justin Reeves.
The defense will be very fast this season for Greenville. CJ Nelson is slated to play safety, but he may see time at different positions depending on the need. He is a versatile player. Heath may be playing linebacker as well, but as one of their top receivers, it may be hard for him to play both sides of the ball. The secondary is led by Tahri Cozine.
Overall, Greenville will be competitive for that third playoff spot with Mesquite Poteet, Forney and Richardson Pearce. I don't think this will be the season they make their ascent to the top, but with the youth of their team, it could very well be soon, depending on how realignment treats the Lions. Certainly, Greenville can see the light at the end of the tunnel - more light than they've seen in some time.
