Denton Ryan has been playing sophomores and juniors the past couple of seasons, and that success should culminate this season. Although there are some questions at several key areas, the fire and meanness is back at Denton Ryan. Coach Joey Florence and his staff will return several great players from last year's playoff squad.
Offensively, whoever wins the quarterback job will have several great receivers to throw to. James Johnson and Taylor Lokey, younger brother of Derek Lokey will make a great receiver combination. Blake Holland was very impressive as a sophomore and will only get better this season. The running game will have a quality athletes as well.
Defensively, Josh Williams may win defensive MVP. He is a solid defensive end and a great pass rusher. He is very coachable which has made him deadly. In the secondary, Payton Whitlock is undersized but very tenacious. He has great vertical leap and doesn't mind challenging the bigger receivers in the district.
Overall, Denton Ryan has a solid squad this season. With Wichita Falls and WF Rider in the district, they will have to play hard every game. With a first round game projected against Keller Fossil Ridge and a second game projected against Aledo, Denton Ryan's success may be judged more on its playoff run. If it can get past the first two games, they may be playing for yet another state championship.
