Mayde Creek DT picks up Ivy League interest

Katy Mayde Creek DT Jowyn Ward is poised for a big senior season. After coming off a big win in Week 0, the big man in the trenches already has his phone ringing. Holding only one offer, Ward is out to impress Division I colleges across the country. TPI caught up with Ward after a huge performance in Mayde Creek's season opener.

Katy Mayde Creek's Jowyn Ward has started this season off with a bang. After a 28-21 win over Fort Bend Dulles Saturday night, he had a message left on his phone from a college recruiter.

"Columbia called me last night during the game and left me a message," Ward said. "But right now, Army is my only offer. I hope to pick up more as the season goes on."

His on-the-field performance last night was one that should warrant some attention. He recorded 4 solo tackles, a sack, and plenty of assists and quarterback hurries. At this rate, Ward's stock could rise by the end of the season.

Ward (6-2, 265) is also picking up interest from Missouri, Arkansas, Texas Tech, and Miami. At one time Ward said he was hearing from Nebraska, but he said he has not heard from the Huskers for some time. But with interest coming from Columbia now, Ward has another school to consider for next year.

"Right now I do not have any favorites," Ward said. "But a school with strong academics is a big deal for me. They (Columbia) will be high on my list. I would also have to say I like Miami because of their defensive tradition.

"But all of my options are still open."
