TPI's Week 0 Top Performers: 17-5A

With action going on all across the state, TPI's Ahmard Vital will highlight some of the top West Houston player performances from Week 0 in District 17-5A.

QB Russell Shepard, Cy Ridge
Here is one of the best examples of a true dual-threat quarterback in high school football. Shepard avenged last year's two losses to Cinco Ranch. He completed 11 passes for 177 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. On the ground, Shepard rushed 16 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Cy Ridge won 41-21.

RB Wesley Cobb, Cy Fair
In the absence of top running back Sam McGuffie, Cobb stepped in and got the job done. Cobb rushed 20 times for 139 yards and two scores. Even though the Bobcats did not pull out the win (21-17 in favor of Stratford), it's nice to know that Cy Fair can still have a sufficient ground game regardless of the situation.

QB Max Jenkins, Langham Creek
Jenkins came into Friday's game against Katy Taylor on a mission and it was accomplished. He was 17-of-21 for 245 yards passing and picked up another 155 yards rushing and four touchdowns. In a 34-14 victory, Jenkins proved that he is the man and he is dangerous by air or ground.

QB Jeff McVaney, Strake Jesuit
Making the full transition to quarterback is something McVaney knew he would have to get used to. In the St. Thomas game, he was 7-of-11 for 113 yards and three touchdowns. He had a rushing touchdown also. I'm anxious to see how he will do against Baytown Lee this weekend.

WR Hayden Krc, Cy Creek
Following in the footsteps of former top Cougar wide outs (Alan Artz, Patrick Fleming), Krc is right in line. Against a tough Klein Oak team, Krc hauled in six passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. Not bad for a season opener.

RB Darrell Lea, Cy Springs
Lea got the season rolling for the Panthers in their opener against Morton Ranch. He rushed 171 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns. I see Lea going for 1,000 yards this season and this performance is a pretty good start. Cy Springs won 27-12.
