Future Bruin ready for big season

Katy RB Aundre Dean is one of the state's top backs and returns for his senior campaign. His summer and off-season dedication to becoming a better athlete was evident in the game against Klein last week. Being a leader for his team is what Dean is all about. TPI caught up with Dean this past weekend to talk about his game play and expectations for the Tiger squad.

Katy's Aundre Dean knows what it takes when it comes to game-time preparation. Dean enters his senior year at Katy after being on varsity since his freshman year. And believe he is poised for a big senior season.

Last Thursday, he and the Katy team earned their first victory of the season with 45-0 win over Klein. Dean rushed for 153 yards on 24 carries. Though things started slow for the Tigers offensively, Dean still managed to gain the tough yards he is used to getting.

"I like to do down-hill running because that can turn into big plays," Dean said. "I did a lot of strength and conditioning this summer to build up muscles mass. I wanted to be able to run through more people."

Mission accomplished. Dean has put on at least 10 pounds since last year and appears to be much harder to take down. Against Klein, one defender rarely took down Dean.

Dean, who is a UCLA commit, stressed that ‘work, work, and work' was what it would take for the Tigers to have success. And to go along with the on-the-field performances, Dean is also a team captain and vocal leader.

"I was fortunate to get four years on varsity so the guys expect for me to lead," Dean said. "I want to set a good example for the team and encourage us to not get complacent. We have to keep working to get better every day because when you don't, you lose."

As far as his verbal commitment to UCLA?

"Oh, it's a wrap, that is not changing," Dean said.
