Lamar Consolidated began defense of their District title by taking care of Waller last week 31-14. Jacquizz Rodgers continued his stellar high school career with 3 more touchdowns. Bay City and Seven Lakes came up short in their contests, but both ball clubs looked much improved, which means a tough road ahead when District play begins.

El Campo only got a half of football in before bad weather cancelled
their game against Yates, while Terry and Foster begin their 2007 season's

Blackcats at Waller Bulldogs: The Bay City Blackcats went toe-to-toe
with Class 6A defending TAPPS state champs St. Pius last week, coming up short
33-27. The Blackcats will try for
their first win of the year by traveling to Waller to face the Bulldogs.
Waller will be hyped up for their first home game of the season, and are
still licking their wounds after a 31-14 loss to Lamar Consolidated last week.
Hoffy's Pick: Blackcats by 7
Dulles Vikings: The Spartans gave Clements a heck of a scare last week,
coming up one point short in a big upset, 21-20.
Don't expect Dulles to be surprised by the Spartan's improved play
from last season. Seven Lakes will
be better this season as their first game showed and should get their first
varsity victory sometime early in the season. Hoffy's
Pick: Vikings by 7
Angleton Wildcats at El Campo Ricebirds: This is an old District match up
between the Wildcats and Ricebirds. Both
teams know each other well, and past battles have gone down to the wire.
Angleton looked sluggish last week in their opener against Westbury and
will look to open things up against a stingy Ricebird defense, while El Campo is
looking to play four quarters after last week's game against Yates was called
in the second quarter due to weather. Hoffy's
Pick: Ricebirds by 10
Knights at Lamar Cons. Mustangs: The Mustangs looked good coming
out of the gate, as Jacquizz Rodgers and D.J. Smallwood led the way in a
convincing win over Waller. Elkins
47-0 last week, but the Knights know the test will be much tougher against the

Rangers at Friendswood Mustangs: Terry
kicks off their 2007 campaign in what could be a first round playoff preview.
Friendswood looked good in their win over Jones last week, mixing up the
run and the pass very efficiently. Expect
the Mustangs to try and do more of the same this week against a tougher, quicker
Ranger defense. The Rangers must
come out and minimize mistakes to win this one.

Bears at Foster
Falcons also start their season in Week 1 by hosting the Bears from 18-4A.
came up short against
14-7 last week, and will look to improve against a Foster team with lots of
questions marks coming in. Foster
will find out quickly how the players respond against a stingy Bear defense.
