TPI District 18-5A: Week One Preview (FREE)

Well Week 0 is behind us and it was exciting. The game to catch will be the Katy/Woodlands match up. Also, Katy Cinco Ranch and Cy Springs, Langham Creek and Mayde Creek (two teams coming off strong Week 0 wins), Morton Ranch/College Park, Katy Taylor and Fort Bend Austin play. From the Alief schools, Elsik will battle Stratford, Hastings and Fort Bend Marshall, and Taylor and Fort Bend Kempner.

Katy vs. The Woodlands: Katy put up 45 points against Klein, but the Woodlands will likely put up more of a fight. Katy RB Aundre Dean is running hard these days out of the backfield and the Tiger defense and special teams is solid. They face a tough Highlander rushing attack led by Woodlands RB Tracy Milo. But in the end, I see the Tigers earning their second win. Katy by 14.

Katy Cinco Ranch vs. Cy Springs: The Cougars are coming off a hard loss last week, but I don't see them struggling in this one. Cinco Ranch has too much offensive firepower and the Panthers probably will not be able to keep the Cougars out of the end zone. Cinco Ranch by 21.

Alief Elsik vs. Houston Stratford: Elsik gave up 41 points to Nimitz last week and this opponent will not be easier. QB Andrew Luck leads Stratford and he will make plays week in and week out. I don't see the Rams having an answer to the offensive attack they will see this weekend. Stratford by 14.

Alief Hastings vs. Fort Bend Marshall: Hastings managed to pull out the win against Hightower last week, but Marshall will likely be much more difficult. Reason? Defense. The Buffaloes are very physical on that side of the ball and I think it will be tough to move it on them. Defense wins games, period. Marshall by 14.

Alief Taylor vs. Fort Bend Kempner: Coming off a dominating win last week, the Lions look to keep that momentum going. As they line up against Kempner this week, the same thing should happen as last week. Athlete Donte Elliott should have another big game. Alief Taylor by 10.

Katy Taylor vs. Fort Bend Austin: This game may get interesting as both of these teams should match up well. Look for Taylor's Cullen Pabody and Rodney Mouton to each have a big game. For Austin, RB Chris Wilson will be one to watch. It's a tight race to the finish, but I'll go with Taylor. Taylor by 7.

Mayde Creek vs. Langham Creek: Both of these squads are coming off of big wins from Week 0. Mayde Creek's strength is defense and Langham Creek's is offense. In most situations, I would take defense over the offense, but today my vote is for the Lobos. Langham Creek by 7.

Katy Morton Ranch vs. Woodlands College Park: Last week, College park rolled Tomball with a strong ground game. Well, that will likely happen against Morton Ranch too. This game may get out of hand early. College Park by 28.
