Cy Creek was coming off a 31-14 loss to the Klein Oak Panthers while this was the first

game of the season for the Spring Woods Tigers. That was a huge advantage as the

Tigers dug themselves an early hole by simple mistakes probably due to first game jitters.

The Cougars took advantage early as Cy Creek SR QB Jacob Thompson scored on an 11

yard TD run. With 11:31 to go in the second quarter SOPH RB Brent Mitcham had a 19

yard TD scamper that made the score 14-0 in favor of the Cougars. Aided by a 75 yard

kickoff return by the Tigers and a converted 4th and 1 play they finally got on the board

with a 35 yard JR K Roldolpho Cabera field goal. The Tigers then attempted an onside

kick that was recovered by SR DB Chad Darneal. The Cougars took advantage and

responded back with another QB Jacob Thompson TD run of 1 yard to make the halftime

score 21-3 with the Cougars on top. The third quarter had two straight interceptions, one

by each team. Spring Woods SR DB Ray Hernandez picked Thompson off at the Cougars

48. The Tigers gave the ball right back when Cy Creek SR DB Josh Smith picked off SR

QB Tramarcus Williams at their own 7 yard line. The Spring Woods defense stopped the

Cougars again and got the ball on a Cougar punt inside their own 5 yard line. The

Cougars just missed a safety on a controversial 2nd and long play. They took advantage

and an 3rd down QB Williams threw a 42 yard pass to SR WR/DB Jimmy Heckard.

During that same possession a sack resulting in a 15 yard loss on 3rd down was cancelled

by a personal foul fasemask call. With 3:27 left in the third quarter the Tigers SR FB

Jarvis Ardoin had a 6 yard TD run which made the game 21-10. Cy Creek had a very

quick drive of their own that resulted in a 30 yard field goal by SR K/P Colin Baker put

the Cougar lead up to 24-10. With 11:12 left in the fourth quarter K Baker missed on a 45

yard FG attempt which had plenty of distance but went wide left. The final score was set

up by a Tiger fumble and capped once again by QB Thompson as he went in to the

endzone from 8 yards out to make the final score 31-10. SOPH RB Mitcham in his first

varsity game had 12 carries for 107 yards and 1 TD and 4 receptions for 42 yards. QB

Thompson didn't have his best passing game of his career but still ended up with 3

rushing TD's on the night.
