Langham Creek DB likes a Big 12 school

Langham Creek DB Obinna Akujuobi is playing at the top of his game in hopes of landing that Division I offer he longs for. He has the statistics to back up his big play on the field and looks to continue this level of play. TPI caught up with the hungry Akujuobi to talk recruiting.

Langham Creek's Obinna Akujuobi is en route to having a much stronger season than he did last year as a junior. To date he has not received an offer from any schools, but he feels like one is coming soon.

"At the moment, Navy has sent me letters to come visit and catch one of their games," Akujuobi said. "I have been receiving interest from them, Iowa State, and Houston. Iowa State came down this past Spring to watch me. I would have to say that they are my favorite."

He feels that Ames, Iowa is the right fit for him to call home for next season. If this opportunity works out for him, he will reunite with a former teammate.

"One of our players (OL Kelechi Osemele) is going to school there," Akujuobi said. "They have a good program and it is up-and-coming with their new coach (Gene Chizik)."

Akujuobi finished last season with 45 tackles, two interceptions, five pass break ups, and three forced fumbles. The 5-10, 165-pound safety has the numbers this season to easily surpass this.

Right now he has about 20 tackles and four interceptions on a Lobo team that has undefeated 3-0 record.

"I will continue to give 100 percent and play with heart each week," Akujuobi said.
