Trinity Defense Leads the Way in 27-7 Win

Trinity bounced back from last week's tough loss to Odessa Permian with a dominant defensive performance in a 27-7 win over Waco High on Friday.

BEDFORD- The Euless Trinity Trojans (2-1) used a stifling defense and big play passing game to knock off the Waco Lions (3-1) 27-7 Friday night at Pennington Field. The Trinity defense took advantage of a Waco offense that was missing not only QB Kyle Carter but also Baylor bound RB Jared Salubi as the Trojans held the Lions from advancing past midfield until the final drive of the game. Trinity was led by junior WR Tyree Tucker on offense who caught 5 passes for 139 yards and 1 touchdown.

Trinity on their opening possession got great field position after forcing Waco to go backwards on their first drive, THS took over at the Waco 45 and the Trojans would take advantage as Tyree Tucker would haul in a 31 yard touchdown reception to put the Trojans up 7-0 with Pery Negreiros' PAT. Trinity's defense would give the offense a short field on their next drive as after forcing another three and out Clay Walls got a solid return down to the Waco 38. Trinity would be unable to move the ball much but Pery Negreiros would nail a 51 yard field goal to put Trinity up 10-0. Trinity midway through the second quarter would tack on three more points as Negreiros would hit from 37 yards out to make it 13-0. The key play on the drive was a beautiful one handed reception for 40 yards by Tyree Tucker. Neither team was able to put together any sustained offense for the remainder of the first half and Trinity held a 13-0 halftime lead.

After going three and out on their first possession of the second half Trinity would manage to move the ball on their next try as WR Tyree Tucker would haul in back to back receptions of 20 yards and 28 yards to move the ball inside the Waco 5. Dontrayveous Robinson would cap the drive with a three yard run and with the PAT the Trojans held a commanding 20-0 lead with 5:40 left in the third quarter. With little more than three minutes left in the game Trinity backup FB Christo Lisika scored from a yard out to make it 27-0 Trinity. Waco would manage to finally put together a scoring drive as Bronshae Dugas would score from a yard out and with Ernesto Guevara's PAT the score would be 27-7 Trinity and that's how this one would end up.
