Aldine Nimitz QB busy with recruiting, season

Aldine Nimitz ATH Michael Thomas hit the radar last year after putting up big numbers as a junior. With more than 20 offers on the table, Thomas has narrowed his list to seven. TPI caught up with Thomas after an official visit he took during the bye week for this update.

Aldine Nimitz's Michael Thomas has had quite a busy year so far. But it is just getting started. Besides the fact that he and the Cougar team are 3-0 as they head into District 19-5A play, Thomas has been doing quite a bit of road tripping.

"I just got back from an official visit to Northwestern," Thomas said. "It was fun and I got to be with the coaching staff and the defensive backs. It is like a family there and felt really comfortable."

At the moment, Thomas has 22 offers but has narrowed his choices to a Top 7. Stanford, Northwestern, Iowa State, Nebraska, Boise State, Missouri, and Arizona State. He also recently picked up offers from Colorado and Navy. All the schools are looking at him as an athlete expect for Nebraska (wide receiver).

Thomas did not name a favorite in the bunch, but did give the heads up on where he is heading for his next visits.

"I plan to go to Missouri and Iowa State next," Thomas said. "I got the chance to do a few unofficial visits over the summer to California, Baylor, Stanford, and Rice."

Most of Thomas' visits to date have been pretty good. But one did not go as well as planned.

"At one time I was considering California," Thomas said. "But my experience out there was not what it was at other places. It was good to go out there, but I think I will look elsewhere."

This season Thomas has right at 200 yards rushing and about 200 passing. He has five total touchdowns. He and the Cougar squad begin District 19-5A play this week against Houston Northbrook.
