Hebron Handles Creekview 35-12

Lewisville Hebron opened up District 6-5A play with an impressive 35-12 win over Carrollton Creekview Thursday night at Standridge Stadium.

CARROLLTON- After a sluggish first half Lewisville Hebron (3-1, 1-0) overwhelmed the Carrollton Creekview Mustangs (2-2, 0-1) 35-12 in both teams' District 6-5A opener at Standridge Stadium on Thursday night. Hebron RB Darius Staten led a balanced attack as he ran for 170 yards and a touchdown, while WR Phillip Mitchell had two touchdowns one each on the ground and through the air. Hebron didn't have the ball very long in the first half but the Hawks made the most of their time with the ball as they jumped out to a 14-6 lead and then turned on the jets in the second half to coast to the win.

Creekview took the ball on the opening possession and went on nearly a six minute drive as the Mustangs true to form kept the ball on the ground and the drive ended with a 37 yard Bret Smith field goal to put CHS up 3-0. Hebron would quickly respond as the Hawks moved down the field in only five plays as Phillip Mitchell scored from 5 yards and out with Mark Essary's PAT the Hawks led 7-3. Hebron after stopping Creekview on their next possession put together another impressive drive this time capped off by a 9 yard scoring toss from Tanner Marsh to Matthew Leatherwood. Creekview would bounce back and go on a time consuming drive mostly on the ground, but the Hebron defense would tighten up inside the red zone and Smith would connect on his second field goal this time from 39 yards out to cut the Hawks lead to 14-6 which would be the score at the half.

Hebron would strike quickly in the third quarter as Phillip Mitchell scored on a 31 yard touchdown reception from Marsh to put the Hawks up 21-6. Hebron would force a Creekview punt midway through the third and the HHS offense would go back to work doing a great job mixing the run and pass and Absalom Jones would score on a one yard run to make it 28-6 Hebron. Creekview's offense would finally get rolling early in the fourth quarter as the Mustangs offense would embark on an 80 yard drive capped by a one yard sneak by QB Scott Grau to cut the lead to 28-12 as the PAT kick was wide right. Hebon would quickly end any hopes of a Creekview comeback as Staten scored on a four yard touchdown run to cap the scoring at 35-12.
