CLEBURNE-Despite putting up 520 yards of offense seemingly dominating the game, the Everman Bulldogs (4-0, 1-0) needed a 21 point outburst in the late third and early fourth quarter to break open what was a 14-14 game to win 35-20 over the Cleburne Yellow Jackets (3-1, 0-1) at Yellow Jacket Stadium. Everman with the win is off to their first 4-0 start since 2001, but the win was not easy as Cleburne despite being dominated statistically seemed to just hang around in front of a crowd of over 5000. Everman RB Clarence Jennings led the way for the Everman ground game with 204 yards on only 13 carries and 3 touchdowns.

Everman took the ball on the opening possession and marched right down the field on the Cleburne defense as Chris Franklin would score on a 9 yard run to make it 7-0 EHS as Andrew Camacho's PAT was good. The Cleburne defense would make a big play with six minutes left in the second quarter as they stopped Everman on a fourth and goal at the six yard line to swing momentum even more as the Bulldogs shunned the field goal attempt and went for six but were stopped cold. Everman's defense would step up to the challenge as sophomore DB Barry Browning would pick off a Walden pass to kill the ‘Jackets momentum. Everman was unable to take advantage of the momentum as the Bulldogs were stopped on downs at the Cleburne 16. The Bulldogs had one final chance to score with less than a minute left in the first half but the Cleburne defense held and at the half despite totally dominating in the stats Everman only lead 14-7.

Cleburne on their first possession of the second half hit a big play as Scotty Walden hit Anthony Crowder for a 39 yard pass down to the one, and Scotty Walden would cap the drive with a one yard sneak to make it 14-13 and Turner's PAT would tie it up at 14 with 9:26 left in the second. Momentum continued to stay on the side of the Yellow Jackets as they would stop the Bulldogs and force EHS to punt the ball for the first time. Everman's defense would be up to the task on the next CHS drive as they would for the moment stop the ‘Jackets momentm and force a Cleburne punt. Ryan Smith would then do the rest as as he would score on a 49 yard run down the CHS sideline, but Camacho's PAT was wide left and it was 20-14 Everman with 2:07 left in the third. Cleburne would add a score with 22 seconds left in the game as DeSean Thomas hauled in an 18 yard touchdown pass from Walden to make it 35-20 Everman as the PAT try was no good, Everman would recover the onside kick and run the clock out to escape with the win.
