Houston Lamar LB likes the Sooners

Houston Lamar LB DeWayne Buggs is going hard this season in hopes of gaining the interest of Division I colleges. TPI caught up with Buggs after a big 28-7 win over Houston Chavez to get this recruiting update.

As junior outside linebacker DeWayne Buggs enters district play with his Houston Lamar team, he looks to continue playing good ball to catch the attention of Division I colleges across the country. But to date, there is already interest there.

"I have been receiving letters from Texas Tech, Florida, North Carolina, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Michigan State," Buggs said. "Michigan State has been emailing me lately."

But from the list of these interested schools, he already has a favorite from the Big 12 Conference.

"If I get the chance, I would go to Oklahoma," the 6-0, 192-pound Buggs said. "I like the way they play ball and have liked them for a long time. I have been watching their games since I was young."

Buggs is averaging about eight tackles a game and the Redskins' team is 3-1 on the season. And for the moment, that is what counts for Buggs, team success.

As far as recruiting is concerned, he does not let it get to him.

"When it comes to recruiting, I don't think much of it," Buggs said. "When it comes time to make a decision, I'll make it. I just don't let it get to me."

Buggs and the Lamar team continue 20-5A play this Friday against Houston Milby.
