San Angelo Lake View Notches Second Win

San Angelo Lake View got some much needed momentum heading into district play as they drilled Wichita Falls Hirschi 36-0 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

WICHITA FALLS- The San Angelo Lake View Chiefs (2-4) scored their biggest win in 12 years as they rolled past the Wichita Falls Hirschi Huskies (3-3) 36-0 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The win was the biggest for LVHS since a 1995 win over Pecos that the Chiefs won 49-7. QB John David Baker led Lake View 122 yards rushing and two touchdowns and throwing for 80 yards and a touchdown. Injury riddled Hirschi was able to move the ball throughout the game but the Huskies shot themselves in the foot most of the afternoon.

San Angelo Lake View opened up the scoring as John David Baker scored on a 63 yard run to give the Chiefs a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. After the two teams exchanged punts Lake View would notch another big play as John David Baker hooked up with Chase Welch for a 73 yard touchdown pass to give Lakeview a 14-0 lead. Hirschi late in the second quarter finally caught a break as Lake View WR Ethan Reid fumbled at the HHS 20 and Huskies DB Caymon Edwards recovered to give Hirschi their best scoring chance of the afternoon. The Lake View defense would hold however and stop the Huskies on downs inside the 10 and the game would be 14-0 Lake View at the half.

After a missed Hirschi field goal on their opening drive of the second half, the Chiefs went up 21-0 on a 9 yard run by Tavonte Williams early in third. Lake View would then get an interception as John David Baker would make a play on defense as he'd pick off HHS QB Harrison Johnson. Lake View would get a 46 yard touchdown from Williams to make it 27-0 Lake View late in the third as the PAT was missed. Lake View would add a safety with 6:26 left in the game as Chris Blair would tackle Hirschi backup QB Darius Thornton in the end zone to make it 29-0 Lake View. Lake View would add another score with a little more than five minutes left as Chris Blair would score on an 8 yard run to make it 36-0 Lake View with 5:03 left in the game. That score would hold up as Hirschi would make one last foray into Chiefs territory but the Lake View defense was up to the challenge to preserve the shutout.
