Garland Routs Lakeview Centennial

Garland's offense finally broke out against a beat up Lakeview Centennial squad on Thursday night. GHS kept their playoff hopes alive in District 10-5A with a 55-23 rout of the Patriots.

GARLAND- The Garland Owls (2-5, 2-2) scored early and often in a 55-23 rout of the Garland Lakeview Cetennial Patriots (5-2, 3-1) on Thursday night at Williams Stadium. Garland was powered by an offense that finally had the breakout game coaches had been waiting for. Junior QB Josh Mouse had a huge game throwing for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns and chipping in a fourth score on the ground to pace a Garland offense that rolled up 408 yards, while LSU commit Chancey Aghayere led a swarming Owls defense that held Lakeview Centennial to less than one yard per carry running the ball.

Garland opened the game up with a huge play as QB Josh Mouse hooked up with Adrian Phillips for a 69 yard touchdown pass to put the Owls up 7-0. After forcing a Lakeview Centennial punt, QB Jared Barnett hooked up with Alex Updyke for a 10 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0 Owls with 7:11 left in the first quarter. Garland would then stop the Patriots on downs and the Owls offense would once again move the ball right down the field as Jeremy Cummings would cap the drive with an 8 yard touchdown run to make it 20-0 GHS with 2:29 left in the first quarter. LCHS finally got on the board with 5:11 left in the second quarter as Antigua Evo would kick a 24 yard field goal to cut the lead to 20-3. Garland would have a quick answer as Alex Updyke would catch his second touchdown reception of the first half this time from 8 yards out to make it 27-3 Garland. Lakeview Centennial would have one final shot to put points up before the half but Garland blocked a last second field goal try to keep the score at 27-3.

After recovering a Lakeview fumble, the Owls would add to the lead as Josh Mouse scored on a 14 yard run to up the lead to 34-3 with 9:57 left in the third. Lakeview Centennial would finally get some momentum as Troy White would score on a 40 yard run to cut the lead to 34-10 with 7:49 left in the third. On the first play of the fourth quarter Lakeview Centennial would strike again after recovering a Garland fumble, Troy White would throw a 9 yard touchdown pass to Donnell Hill to cut the GHS lead to 34-17. Garland however would end the Patriots comeback attempt as Mouse would throw his third touchdown pass of the game this one a 56 yard pass to Jacques Caldwell to extend the Owls lead to 41-17 with 9:02 left. LCHS wouldn't give up as the Patriots behind some timely passing from Troy White would move right down the field and White would cap the drive with a 3 yard run to make it 41-23 Garland with 8:24 left in the game. The onside kick for Lakeview Centennial would turn into disaster as Garland's Rudy Rodriguez would catch the kick on a perfect hop and return it 52 yards for the score to extend the lead to 48-23. After forcing a Lakeview Centennial punt, Garland would tack on another score as Jeremy Cummings would burst through the middle of the Patriots defense for a 58 yard touchdown run to extend the Owls lead to 55-23 with 5:34 left in the game. Lakeview Centennial would fumble on their final possession and GHS would run the clock out with backups to secure a key District 10-5A win.
