Clear Lake DT hearing from Big 12 schools

Clear Lake DT Stephen Barrera came into his junior year with quite a bit interest. Now he looks to continue strong play and build on that momentum. He is hearing from a few Big 12 schools, which is the conference he would like to end up in. TPI caught up with Barrera to get this recruiting update.

Clear Lake defensive tackle Stephen Barrera is one a few big guys in the trenches up front for the Falcon team. With solid numbers in his junior season, Barrera will be one to watch in the Class of 2009. Several college programs have already began pursuing him.

"I have interest coming from Oklahoma State, Georgia, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Houston," Barrera said. "Right now I really like Oklahoma State. I want to play in the Big 12 and stay close to home."

With a few Big 12 schools already showing interest, Barrera said the Oklahoma schools have been showing him the most love.

"I like Oklahoma State a lot more than the others," Barrera said. "I really like the surroundings and they are a good football team. But from Oklahoma, I have received a few hand-written letters. I have always liked the Big 12 a lot."

The 6-5, 275-pound Barrera is putting up big numbers so far this season. Already he has more than 50 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles. To go along with these number Barrera, has a few other attributes that will likely gain the attention of college recruiters.

"I have pretty good speed which I am able to show on the field," Barrera said of 4.9 40-yard time. "I am committed to the program and try hard to do what is right. I do not mess around and I am very coachable."

The Falcons are coming off a big Week 7 win over Galveston Ball. They are set to take on Clear Brook next Friday.
