Five-star QB adds two more offers to list

Good news just continues coming to Cy Ridge QB Russell Shepard. He was named one of Scout.com's five-star athletes this week and here recently Shepard just received two more offers. TPI had the chance to talk with the junior QB to get this recruiting update.

As Cy Ridge quarterback Russell Shepard was getting prepared for a Week 8 battle against District 17-5A opponent Jersey Village, he received some news that he was not necessarily expecting. Though it is no secret that he is one of the top athletes from the Class of 2009, Shepard got word from a couple more Division I programs requesting his services.

"I just received two new offers from Boston College and Arizona State, and now I have 10 offers" Shepard told TPI Friday night.

The 6-2, 185-pound Shepard pulled these new offers and was really excited because of how soon the opportunity came to him. He spoke on this, and the success that the two schools are having right now.

"It's great because both of the schools are undefeated right now," Shepard said of the PAC-10 and ACC programs that offered him. "When I talked with the Arizona State coach he said he had just got my highlight film. Boston College said they had never seen me play and recently got my tape. My film is getting around a lot and it is good to see how they offer me so quick."

Shepard's new offer list includes: Nebraska, Iowa, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Arkansas, Alabama, and Minnesota. Though he is being highly recruited by almost every major college program in the country, he made a point to mention interested schools like USC, Notre Dame, and Texas.

He said that when he talks to coaches who have viewed his video, many of them have similar things to say.

"Just about every coach I talk to has said that I am an ‘electrifying' player," Shepard said. "They all like my arm strength and my ability to make plays. They are very impressed with the way I can make a lot of plays with my feet."

And his feet have definitely been an asset to the Rams' team. As of now, Shepard has 878 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He is averaging nearly 10 yards per carry on the ground. Through the air, he has 522 yards and five touchdowns.
