Colleyville Heritage Wins a Thriller

Colleyville Heritage spoiled Keller's Senior Night on Thursday with a thrilling 24-17 win over the Indians.

KELLER- In a game that featured some big time offensive performances it was a defensive player who stood out for the Colleyville Heritage Panthers (7-2, 5-1) in a thrilling 24-17 win over the Keller Indians (4-5, 3-3) Thursday at the KISD Athletic Complex. CHHS LB Bobby Schneider recovered two Keller fumbles and then with a minute left in the game on a 4th and 1 play from the CHHS 8 yard line Schneider tackled Keller QB Crawford Jones for a yard loss to preserve the win for the Panthers. WR Shane Hilliard led the Panthers on offense as he hauled in 3 touchdown passes from Panthers QB Tyler Little. The Colleyville Heritage Panthers defense did the job without their top defensive back Eddie Foster in the game as well.

Colleyville Heritage took the opening kick and immediately marched right down the field on the Keller defense, as Tyler Little hit Shane Hilliard for a 10 yard scoring pass to make it 7-0 CHHS as Ryan Owens' PAT was good. On Keller's first offensive play Drew Martin fumbled on a screen pass and CHHS LB Bobby Schneider recovered his first fumble to give the Panthers another chance to put more points on the board. Keller's defense was up to the task and the Indians would hold on downs, after moving inside the CHHS 10 Keller was forced to settle for a 22 yard Matt Hogan field goal. After forcing their first three and out of the game Keller would take the lead on an 8 yard touchdown run by Evan Perkins to make it 9-7 Keller as the Indians were stopped on the two point try on a swinging gate. Colleyville Heritage wouldn't trail for long as Hilliard caught his second touchdown reception of the game from Little, this one from five yards out to make it 14-9 CHHS. Keller had a chance to put more points on the board before the half but they were stopped on downs at the Colleyville Heritage 19. CHHS had a chance also to put more points on the board with less than a minute in the first half but KHS DB Matt White picked off a Little pass to keep it at 14-9 Colleyville Heritage.

After stopping the Indians on their first possession of the second half, Colleyville Heritage would march down the field and extend the lead to 17-9 as Ryan Ownens nailed a 28 yard field goal. Neither team was able to move the ball much the rest of the quarter, but early in the fourth quarter the Keller passing game got going. Keller QB Crawford Jones would score on a 4th and 1 QB sneak early in the fourth to cut the Panthers lead to 17-15. Keller tied the game at 17 as Jones hit Evan Perkins for the two point conversion. Colleyville Heritage however would have an answer as Little hooked up with Hilliard for their score of the game to make it 24-17 with little more than six minutes remaining. Keller would use a solid mix of the run and pass to put themselves in position to tie the game up near the end of regulation but the CHHS defense stepped up and Schneider made the play to save the game for Colleyville Heritage.
