LaMarque QB likes TCU, LaTech

LaMarque quarterback Jarius Kerlegan has seen quite a it of interest come his way because of his performance on the field. With his team now heading into the postseason, Kerlegan looks to put up big numbers while leading his team to another state championship. TPI caught up with him for this recruiting update and thoughts on the 2007 season.

After a solid junior season and a state championship under his belt, LaMarque quarterback Jarius Kerlegan has gained the attention of several Division I coaches along the way. As he and the Cougar team prepare for a bi-district match up against El Campo, Kerlegan looks to lead his team first and deal with recruiting later.

"We will look to getting out of the first round and then try to win another state championship," the 6-0, 185-pound Kerlegan said. "As far as recruiting, I really haven't had the chance to do a whole lot because of the football season."

Either way, Kerlegan is on the radar and several programs are aware of his talents. He mentioned that he has offers from Louisiana Tech, Fresno State, and TCU. He said he also keeps in contact with coaches from Oklahoma, UTEP, Utah, and Texas Tech

He said that Fresno State and TCU seem to be pursuing the most and call him every week. But from all of his interest, he named two favorites.

"I would have to say that TCU and Louisiana Tech are my favorites right now," Kerlegan said. "With TCU, I like the coaching staff and that is a place I would really like to go. I have received plenty of hand-written letters from the whole LaTech coaching staff. They are waiting for me to come and visit there."

Kerlegan has a brother (Larry Kerlegan) who attends Grambling State. He said the coaches at Louisiana Tech told him to come by and visit whenever he is in town. But, Kerlegan is going to wait until his high school career is complete before that will occur.

"I am going to wait until football season is over and then I'll take my visits," Kerlegan said. "I have been busy and my mom has been busy also. I would like for her to take the visits with me."

On the season, Kerlegan has thrown for 1,385 yards and six touchdowns. On the ground, he has 281 yards and four touchdowns.
