McVaney pushing for dual role on next level

Strake Jesuit athlete Jeff McVaney has proven that he is more than capable of participating in multiple sports on the next level. And recruiters across the country see the same. With interest coming his way in two different sports, McVaney is checking out all of his options before deciding where he will end up. TPI brings you this recruiting update on McVaney.

Things seemed to be picking up in recruiting for Strake Jesuit quarterback Jeff McVaney. As if the bi-district playoff match up this weekend against Katy is not enough, McVaney has a long line of Division I programs interested in his talents.

But the 6-, 215-pound McVaney has interest coming from his performances on the gridiron and on the diamond.

"Right now, I have colleges that are recruiting me for both sports," McVaney said. "I have offers from Army, Harvard, Texas State, and Houston. Army and Harvard are for football and Houston is for baseball. Texas State is giving me the opportunity to play both."

And the list goes on. McVaney has already visited schools like North Carolina, Louisiana Tech, Texas State, TCU, and LSU. Because of recent inquires, he has planned visits Iowa, Kansas, Vanderbilt, Brown, and a host of others.

His football and baseball interest list goes on and on. For baseball, he even has a few major league programs like the Houston Astros and Cincinnati Reds to name a few.

"There are a few other schools that will allow me to play both sports like Sam Houston and Central Arkansas," McVaney said. "Also, Penn has come along and said they want to see my video as soon as possible. They want me to play linebacker."

McVaney has led the Crusader team to an 8-2 record this season and clinched a spot in the playoffs. He has thrown fro 1,603 yards and 21 touchdowns. On the ground he has gained 748 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Crusader team will face Katy in the bi-district playoffs this Friday at Rice Stadium.
