Smith feels like an offer is coming soon

Now that the season is over, Houston Westside WR Michael Smith can begin to really work on recruiting. With more than five Division I colleges showing interest, Smith feels like his first offer will come soon enough. Smith talked with TPI to discuss his recruiting options.

Things seem to be heating up for Houston Westside wide receiver Michael Smith. After a playoff loss to Aldine Eisenhower (a game in which he had 10 receptions for 161 yards and a touchdown) in the bi-district round of the playoffs, Smith is completely focused on recruiting.

Though he currently holds no official offer, he feels like one is right around the corner.

"I have Boston College, Fresno State, Tulane, Louisiana Tech, and Buffalo staying in touch with me," Smith said. "Boston College and Tulane came down to my school to pick up some film on me. But I feel like Fresno State and LaTech are close to offering."

The 6-1, 185-pound Smith mentioned that he is receiving phone calls from coaches of all of the schools listed. His last couple conversations seemed to be promising.

"The Fresno coach (Tim Skipper) said that they are taking three wide receivers in this recruiting class," Smith said. "He said I was high on their list. A LaTech coach came by the school Friday so he could pick up a tape and take it to the head coach. He was impressed with my video."

Smith finished the year off with 74 catches for 1,024 yards and 12 touchdowns.
