Boyd Defense Paves the Way in a 27-6 win

The say defense wins championships and the Boyd defense certianly lived up to that billing as they rolled past Palmer 27-6 on Saturday.

BURLESON-Boyd's defense was the story on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon as the Yellow Jackets improved to 8-4 on the season with an impressive 27-6 win over the Palmer Bulldogs (9-3) in the Class 2A Region 2 Division 2 Area Playoffs at Elk Stadium. Boyd held Palmer to only 141 yards of offense, while the Yellow Jackets slugged their way to 230 yards rushing, led by QB Chris Demases who ran for 107 yards and a score and threw for 116 yards and another touchdown.

The cold and rainy conditions contributed to a sloppy first half of action as the two teams combined for eight first half fumbles and an interception. Palmer notched the first big play of the game on defense as Jarrett Stone would intercept an errant pass by Boyd QB Chris Demases to set the Bulldogs up in good field position. Palmer would capitalize as Jarrett Stone would score on a four yard run to put the Bulldogs up 6-0 as the two point run was stopped by the Boyd defense. Boyd would dominate the remainder of the half as the Yellow Jackets would score on a 66 yard touchdown pass from Demases to Eric Warner to tie things up at six as the PAT kick was wide left. BHS would recover a Palmer fumble on the ensuing kickoff and the Yellow Jackets would capitalize as Demases scored on a 2 yard run and Hilton Maynor would tack on the two point run to give Boyd a 14-6 lead. Boyd would have several opportunities to add to their lead but the Palmer defense kept the Yellow Jackets out of the end zone and at halftime Boyd held a precarious 14-6 advantage.

Boyd in the second half completely dominated action with their ground game as late in the third quarter Jeremy Sessums scored on a two yard run to extend the BHS lead to 20-6. Late in the game Colton Sims got an offensive lineman's dream as recovered a Sessums fumble in the end zone for the Yellow Jackets final tally of the game and a 27-6 win. Next week Boyd takes on the winner of tonight's game between Melissa and DeKalb being played in Forney.
