Elysian Fields Routs Rice Consolidated

Elysian Fields jumped out quick on Rice Consolidated and never looked back in a 46-3 rout on Friday night.

WACO- The Elysian Fields Yellow Jackets (14-1) put on one of the most dominating performances of the season in a 46-3 demolition of the Rice Consolidated Raiders (13-2) in the Class 2A Division II State Semi-Finals at Waco ISD Stadium. Elysian Fields defense held Rice Consolidated to only 103 yard of total offense while rolling up 405 yards of total offense in the win.

The first half was a totally one sided affair as Elysian Fields completely dominated Rice Consolidated outgaining the Raiders 252-44. RB Joe Benefield was the main beneficiary of the offense as he rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown and he also caught a touchdown pass to pace the Yellow Jackets. After punting on their first possession the Yellow Jackets defense got things started as LB Dustin Brown intercepted Rice Consolidated QB Taylor Cook and returned it 33 yards down to the RCHS 12 and on the very next play Benefield would get his first score of the game on a 12 yard run. After forcing a Raiders punt the Elysian Fields offense wasted little time jumping out to a 13-0 lead as Tim Curry scored on a five yard touchdown run. Early in the second quarter Curry would get his second touchdown run of the first half this time from two yards out to give the Yellow Jackets a 19-0 lead. The domination continued as with one second left in the first half Elysian Fields increased the lead to 25-0 as Curry hit Benefield for a six yard touchdown pass to end a horrible first half for the Rice Consolidated Raiders.

The domination continued as on the first play of the second half DB Joel Rose picked up a J.J. Reggins fumble and returned it 39 yards for a score to make it 31-0 Elysian Fields. EFHS would add a 47 yard touchdown run be Dekevius Johnson to make it 38-0 Elysian Fields, some strong weather moved through the area and after a 45 minute lightning delay the two teams would take the field with 5:35 left in the third quarter. Elysian Fields would add a safety as a snap went over the punter's head and the Rice Consolidated punter would kick the ball out of the end zone to make it 40-0. Elysian Fields would add another defensive touchdown as Jacob Sturgeon would score on a five yard fumble return for a touchdown to make it 46-0 with 2:17 left in the third quarter. Rice Consolidated would get on the board with 9:53 left in the game as Luis Samaniego hit a 26 yard field goal for the final margin of 46-3.
