Kerlegan has SWAC and WAC options

At the moment, LaMarque ATH Jairus Kerlegan is in a position where he is pretty satisfied. He has a few offers, some interest, and looks to start making a few trips. Has he narrowed his list down? Are there any favorites? TexasPrepInsider talked with Kerlegan to get the latest in his recruitment.

Leading the way for Texas 4A powerhouse LaMarque for the past two years is no easy task. But quarterback Jairus Kerlegan has handled that responsibility. After posting back-to-back playoff appearances and a state title as a junior, Kerlegan has quite a few Division I coaches checking him out.

Now he looks make a decision about where he wants to take his visits.

"I have offers from Louisiana Tech, Prairie View A&M, Fresno State, and Grambling State," Kerlegan said. "I recently took a trip to Prairie View with a few of my teammates. Sometime this month, I look to go to Louisiana Tech. I would have to say I am favoring them."

Outside of his favorite, Kerlegan is also getting a few looks for TCU and SMU. He said he wants to make a trip to one of these schools with teammate Desmond Haynes, a player who was one of his primary receivers.

But with La Tech, the 6-foot-0, 175-pound Kerlegan said that environment and close family ties is what brings the Bulldogs to the top of the list.

"I have a lot of family there so it would be like a home away from home," Kerlegan said. "I think I could be real comfortable there. They are recruiting me as an athlete, probably to play wide receiver or somewhere in the secondary."

He stated that most schools are looking at him as an athlete. Only Grambling and Prairie View said he has a shot at playing quarterback. And he feels confident that he could be an asset at whatever position he is chosen to play.

Kerlegan led the Cougar team to a 9-3 record and passed for 1,844 yards and seven touchdowns. On the ground he picked up over 400 yards and eight touchdowns.
