Houston WR enjoys West Coast visit

After a visit to the West Coast, Cy Falls WR Denzel Wells was excited about what he experienced during the visit. But with a few more schools to visit, Wells has not closed the door on the recruiting process. So what did have to say? TexasPrepInsider has the update on Wells.

Every year there are players who just explode onto the recruiting scene during their senior seasons. Well Cy Falls wide receiver Denzel Wells is one of them. Playing on one of Greater Houston's most electrifying teams has helped Wells pull in several offers.

Louisiana Tech, Fresno State, Rice, Sam Houston, and Texas State are the choices he has to choose from. He took stop No.1 this past weekend to Fresno State and had this to report.

"It was really fun out there," the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Wells said of Fresno State. "It is really a quiet town, but I like that. Being from a big city like Houston, that was real plus for me. They welcomed me with open arms and I felt like I was already part of the team."

While on the visit, Wells said the coaching staff reaffirmed the offer they extended to him and said they look forward to meeting with him again.

And that meeting is coming up very soon.

"Coach (Pat) Hill and coach (Kerry) Locklin are coming by Thursday for a home visit," Wells said. "They are all so down to earth people."

One of the things that really impressed Wells was coach John Baxter's academic game plan. With academics being one of the primary things that Wells is looking for, this was big plus for him.

"His (Baxter) academic game plan was set up to really help student-athletes," Wells said. "The way the plan is set up, you really can't fail."

For the moment, the Bulldogs are at the top of Wells' list. With Rice as a close second, Wells looks to take a few more visits before he comes to a final decision.

"Right now, Fresno is up there with Rice," Wells said.

Wells has three remaining visits to Rice, La Tech, and Texas State. As a senior, he caught 43 passes for 927 yards and 10 touchdowns.
