One possible sleeper in the Class of 2008 is North Mesquite QB Blair Johnson who his HC Mike Robinson says has the talent to play at the Division 1 level. Coach Robinson would know as he's coached several Division 1 players along the way in his stops at Commerce, Wilmer-Hutchins, Lancaster and Dallas Hillcrest. Johnson who is 6'1 190 pounds and runs a 4.5 forty yard dash earned first team all 12-5A honors throwing for 2307 yards and 25 touchdowns, along with 9 rushing touchdowns in 2007.
The two year letter winner for the Stallions also patrols Centerfield for the baseball team at NMHS which has one of the better baseball programs in DFW. When asked about his strengths Johnson replied, "I feel like I am a playmaker and I can make a play when there is nothing there. I also like to spread the ball around." Johnson who is a late bloomer is hoping he doesn't get caught with a case of bad timing, Coach Robinson when asked about Blair said this, "I am certain he can play Division 1 ball, his highlight video is something else. We've had several Division 1 schools come by and see his tape and they are amazed he's flown under the radar. I've even had a couple of schools mention they wished they would have seen him earlier when they had scholarships available."
Johnson hasn't gotten any interest from Division 1 schools, but with a late recruiting push both Johnson and Coach Robinson are hoping the interest can start to increase. At this time SE Oklahoma and Tarleton State has shown the most interest in the DFW sleeper. "I'm hoping to get my film out there and get some late looks." Despite the difficulties of learning a new system in his senior year Johnson wouldn't change a thing, well expect for maybe one item. "This year was great, the team adjusted to the new system and new coaching staff well, the staff was awesome and I felt like I learned a lot. I just wish I could have played for Coach Robinson for more than one season."
